Denver, CO Mortgage Broker · 1 year agoMy understanding is that being an authorized user could help your score for some time to come. This loophole is indeed going to be phased out. However, many lenders do not use the most current version of the FICO software, so for those lenders, the authorized user thing still works. It could work for years to come. I wouldn't count on it, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have mom and dad add you as an authorized user. All upside, no downside. Mom and dad do not have to give you a plastic card, so it could help although it's not guaranteed to do so.
